Produced for the Takeaway Festival at the DANA Centre in London's Science Museum, The Sum of its Parts is an experiment in collaborative art. It challenges users to re-interpret famous works of art using a paint brush and a multi-touch screen screen.

Over the course of the exhibition, participants take turns to reproduce iconic pieces of art. After each interpretation, the average colour is calculated for each pixel and combined with the colours from every other reproduction to produce the current collaborative work.

Atik was responsible for the interface design, software and electronics. The main component of the installation is a 150cm x 113cm LLP (laser light plane) multi-touch surface. The blob tracking is done using Tbeta. Tbeta sends TUIO messages to Processing which then renders the display.
